THE key Good Friday event is at 11.15am, when a cross will be raised on the green, beside St Mary’s Church, followed by a very short service. All are welcome, with coffee available afterwards at the Methodist church.

THE Ramblers’ Association, Britain’s walking charity, has a local group based in Ponteland. The group organises seven to 10 mile walks on Sunday, and shorter walks on Wednesday, with an optional pub lunch afterwards.
