HERE is a selection of nine fun-filled events happening in 2024 that Tynedale residents and visitors can both enjoy. 

1 Tynedale Beer and Cider Festival tickets will go on sale in January. The event will be held at Tynedale Rugby Club from June 13-16 and feature various bands including Love Sophie, Spilt Milk and Baldy Holly.

2 Ponteland's annual Duck Race, organised by Ponteland Rotary, will take place in Ponteland Park in September 2024. Organisers are hoping to confirm specific dates in early 2024.

Record crowds turned out to the event in September 2023 and tickets for the event sold out for the first time.

Ovingham Goose Fair takes place every year on the third Saturday of June, which in 2024 will fall on June 15.

There will be a variety of entertainment, music, children's activities and local stalls.

4 Hexham Book Festival will take place from April 26 until May 5 next year.

The festival celebrates the written and spoken word with an eclectic combination of literary heroes, well-known personalities and up-and-coming authors. The programme has not yet been announced.

5 Organisers of the North East Dog Festival held in Kirkley Hall, Ponteland, have just announced the festival will take place next year on August 31 and September 1.

It will feature dog shows, activities, food, drink, shopping and more.

6 Northumberland County Show will take place in Bywell, near Stocksfield on May 25 and feature the main arena spectacle Free Spirits, which is a display of stallions and falcons working together in a choreographed performance. 

7 Slaley Show will take place on Saturday, August 10.  

8 Hexham Interactive Ghost Walk Northumberland, organised by Haunting Nights, is a new interactive ghost walk taking place in 2024 on March 16 from 7pm.

The walk will start from Hexham Old Gaol and cover Hexham Abbey, Sele Park, the mystery of the Hexham Heads and the ghostly piper of Hexham House Hotel.

9 Allen Valleys Folk Festival celebrates music, dance and heritage and features some of the best live folk music acts from across the UK in Allendale town centre. It involves the burning of a wooden sculpture representing the legendary Allendale Wolf. The festival will take place on September 27-29, 2024.
