Stocksfield

SET in woodlands and fields and edged by the Tyne, the Stocksfield Burn and the A695, Stocksfield is perhaps not a typical tourist attraction.
However, particularly if you enjoy gentle walking, there is much to see.
Stocksfield itself is a largely a late-Victorian development. It is however, surrounded by much older settlements including Bywell, Hindley, Broomley, New Ridley and Hedley. Stocksfield has a variety of local shops along the A695 between the station in the west and Branch End in the west.
In New Ridley, you can find the Dr Syntax Pub, named after a famous race horse.
Many of the walks start and end at the railway station where there is ample parking. From there you can walk both east and west along footpaths that lead eventually, to Ovingham and Prudhoe and Riding Mill respectively. These walks take you through farmland and woodland.
Again starting at the station, you can walk south along the Stocksfield Burn to the fords and New Ridley or north to the Tyne and eventually to Bywell and its twin churches.
If you have children, Stocksfield has two excellent play areas – one tucked away behind the Stocksfield Burn and the other on the A695 at Branch End – both well-worth visiting if your children need to let off steam.
