HEXHAM Art Club will host its summer exhibition next week at the town’s Moot Hall.
The event, which will include around 50 exhibits, will start with a preview evening on Monday, June 18, from 7pm, after which it will run daily from 10am to 4.30pm until Friday, June 24.
The art club, which has around 30 members, meets once a fortnight at Hexham Community Centre.
Members also enjoy regular outings, with exhibitions of their work taking place twice a year.
Next week’s show will include traditional oil and watercolour paintings, as well as more abstract work and some 3D items.
Among the exhibits to be unveiled will be the manger used by St John Lee Church, Acomb, in its Nativities.
This has been painted by artist David Penn.
“It’s a wooden construction, about 2ft by 1ft and he has repainted it with the animals and figures around the outside,” said Ed Hardy, one of the art club committee members.
“It’s quite an honour for the club to have a member paint something from a church.
“David’s a very good artist, so it should be nice.
“Everybody is welcome to come along to both the preview and the exhibition.”
During the event, members of the art club will be painting in Hexham’s Market Square.

HAVING raised over £1,000 through prize draws, dances, whist drives and donations, Bellingham was able to buy its town hall.
So successful was the fund-raising that when all the debts were cleared more than £100 was left in the fund.
The hall could now be used by the town for all manner of social and public functions.
