CORONATION Street bad boy David Platt is heading for Workington next week.

The actor Jack P Shepherd will be appearing at Workington Comets’ Premier Trophy meeting with Glasgow on Saturday, April 19.
The actor will be at Workington speedway an hour before the start to sign autographs and pose for pictures for fans in the Derwent Lounge.
He will be introduced to both teams before the start and give an interview with announcer Michael Max, a Corrie fan, on the centre green before the first race.
Shepherd will then watch the meeting from the directors’ box.

Saturday, June 20th, 1885Over 2,000 people attended the Temperance Gala held at Greencroft Park, Haltwhistle.
Led by the Bardon Mill Brass Band, 12 temperance societies paraded through the town, prior to an open air meeting in the park.
During the event the Rev. J.M. Russel condemned the House of Commons for rejecting a proposal to increase taxes on spirits and beer.
