Ready for feast of rugby

SOME of the best young rugby players in the country will be in action in Corbridge, next month in the prestigious Tynedale Rugby Club Schools competition.

Teams from as far afield as Devon, Hertfordshire, Cheshire and across Scotland will be among the 24 taking part in three distinct competitions on Sunday, September 2.

The festival features two U18 tournaments and an U15 competition.

The two U18 tournaments are split into cup and trophy sections, with some of the nation’s strongest teams competing for the cup, while a mix of local and developing teams compete for the trophy.

Last year’s U18 Cup winners, Newcastle RGS, will be joined in the competition this year by the 2012 Daily Mail U18 National Cup Winners Old Swinford Hospital ,from Stourbridge, and 2012 Scottish National semi-finalists Merchiston Castle, from Edinburgh.

It promises to be a truly national event showcasing school rugby at its very best.

The event is once again being managed in conjunction with Sky High Sports, the Tynedale-based sports tour and events specialist

Tournament organiser Richie Gledson said: “The quality of the teams competing this year is exceptional.

“We are thrilled that this excellent tournament continues to grow and attract the very best youth rugby teams from across the country to Northumberland.

“I’d urge rugby people from across the region to descend on Tynedale Park in September and watch some great rugby in superb surroundings.”
