VISITORS to Tynedale Rugby Club on the first May Bank Holiday will be in for a touching time.
For the club is hosting its first-ever ‘Great North Festival’ of touch rugby.
While it is billed as a fund-raising event for both the main club and the touch rugby section, the aim is to provide an inclusive and fun event which extends to the wider community. Everyone, irrespective of age, sex or ability, will have the opportunity to try the game.
Individual competitions are aimed at everyone from experienced players in their 20s to those that have never played before. Early entries indicate that around half the teams have players who have never played before!
Competitions for the Touch Rugby event include open, novice, women’s and family with squads restricted to three surnames – and two over 40s must be on the pitch at any one time.
There will also be veterans (all players must be 38 years or older), fancy dress, colts, junior rugby coaches and parents where every team must have at least two women on the pitch during play!
