Colts unable to claw back first half deficit against Duns

THE wind worked against Tynedale Colts as they fell to a 26-12 home defeat at the hands of their Duns counterparts.
With a howling gale blowing and Tyne attacking up the slope, the home side found themselves 26 points behind by the time the teams turned around for the second period.
And, with Lady Luck travelling with the visitors, the wind had completely died off to remove the same advantage for the boys in blue and white.
Tynedale started slowly though and they paid the penalty, Duns scoring freely as they used the width and their gas men out wide to outstrip the home defence.
Tynedale were restricted to the odd foray into the Duns half but were only getting to grips with the rampant Borders side by the time the half time whistle blew.
At the interval, Duns held a 26-0 lead with three of their four tries converted.
With the weather playing no part in the second period, Tynedale dominated and secured 12 points of their own as they looked for a route back into the game.
Rob Kellaway and Martyn Steel both scored tries, James Grant converting one, but the clock and some resolute defending from the away side saw Tynedale’s efforts in vein.
Promising for Tynedale was their strong end to the game as they have often lost games in the third quarter this season.
But finishing the stronger and the fitter will give them hope of getting something when they host league leaders Gala Wanderers tomorrow.
The game at Tynedale Park will kick off at 2pm.
