RUGBY: TYNEDALE Colts played their best rugby of the season in their home game with Jed Thistle – but left it too late to overturn a 35 point deficit.

During the second half, the Corbridge youngsters dominated proceedings and ran in three superb tries to give them hope of getting something from the game.

Yet they gave themselves too high of a mountain to climb, their 15 points not coming close to the advantage Jed were allowed to create earlier on.

Tynedale started well and played all the rugby early on, but Jed forced a turnover and dotted down for the first try against the run of play.

Colts raced back upfield but Jed's aggression at the contact area again forced turnover ball for their 12 to break down the left flank, the cover tackle from Martyn Steel halting his progress only for him to offload to his winger to add a second.

Things continued to worsen for the hosts as they conceded three similar tries before half time to leave them staring down the barrel of a gun.

The second half saw Tynedale start in a similar fashion to the first with Jed capitalising on a lack of communication in defence to increase their lead to 35-0.

It was at this point that Tyne came out fighting, dominating every facet of the game and looking to pull off a shock comeback.

Three cracking tries from Rhys Main, 15-year-old Rhys Loughead and Jason Armstrong were all from multi phase plays involving most of the team.

However, the referee’s whistle brought an end to their momentum but Tyne will be hoping to replicate their form for the entire game when they visit Berwick tomorrow at 2pm.
