A TEENAGE footballer swapped his boots for swimming trunks to qualify for a national competition.
Zak Logue, who plays for Ponteland United U15, will compete in the 400m individual medley in the National Swimming Championships in Sheffield in August following a barnstorming performance at the Sunderland New Year Open Meet.
His time of 4.49.72 was not only good enough to win him the gold in the event but also put him forward to the UK stage.
Zak brought home nine medals from the regional championships, adding two further golds courtesy of victories in the 50m butterfly (0.28.08) and the 200m butterfly (2.15.04).
He also collected four prizes for finishing as runner-up, the silver medals picked up in the 100m butterfly (1.02.66), 50m freestyle (0.26.94), 200m individual medley (2.17.74) and 50m backstroke (0.30.57).
Rounding off a great day for the 15-year-old was bronze medals in the 100m backstroke (1.06.83) and the 50m backstroke (2.20.75).
