Team GB skipper at launch

THE captain of Great Britain’s women’s volleyball team at London 2012 helped launch a new club.

Lynne Beattie headed to Queen Elizabeth High School, in Hexham, to launch the new venture.

The lottery funded club is the first of its type in the district and aims to give young people aged between 11 and 18 the opportunity to play volleyball in a fun, social environment.

Supported by Northumberland Sport and run by Tynedale Volleyball Club, the satellite will run every Wednesday.

At the launch, Beattie was joined by former QEHS pupil Steve Anderson, an England international and a member of Team Northumbria’s Super 8 team.
