TRIATHLON: YOUNGSTERS from Hexham’s One Life Racing triathlon club brought their year to an end in fantastic fashion.
The hardy bunch braved the cold temperatures to compete in the Killingworth Aquathlon, and their efforts were rewarded with a number of successes.
First up for the local club was Nell Forster who finished third in the girls’ Tristart (8 years) category, followed by Roisin Lally in second girls and third overall in Tristar 1 (9-10years).
It was all about the girls in Tristar 2 (11–12 years) too, Rhianna Nitsch and Phoebe Forster flying the flag for One Life.
Rhianna finished in an excellent third place overall (second girl) after posting the fastest swim time in her age group, while Phoebe finished in seventh.
The boys Tristar 3 (13–14 years) race was a particularly strong field with One Life boys Fergus Robinson and Max Pearson battling it out to lead the competition and go head-to-head.
Fergus emerged triumphant, posting both the fastest swim and run times, finishing just ahead of Max in second place.
There were impressive performances from the four One Life girls in this category too with Poppy Harris-Pratt finishing as third girl.
Helena Forster and Francesca Harrison finished fifth and sixth, but Antonia Harrison had to retire during the run with a shoulder injury.
One Life once again led the way in the youth race (15–16 years), Toby Routledge turning in an exceptional run to emerge victorious, despite the tough competition. Meanwhile, Jonny Currie, another excellent runner, posted the second fastest run time of the category to finish third overall, while Max Harrison put in a good performance to finish in sixth.
The adults had a hard act to follow after their junior counterparts’ displays, but Ian Pratt performed well to finish 17th from 70 competitors.
Pauline Harris finished in 56th, just three places ahead of Rose Todhunter. Jonny Currie’s father Alan ended up in 40th position.
