Tynedale Pirates 0, Tynedale Reivers 3
THERE was no shame in this defeat for the young Pirates of Tynedale Volleyball Club in the Northern Counties Division Two match last Sunday.
They have not had many opportunities to train together in recent weeks but showed great promise and will give their club rivals a harder game the next time they meet.
Not that this was a walkover for the Reivers.
They are a strong team and will finish in the top two this season.
Several of their players possess experience and ability undimmed by the advancing years and they mixed up their play in a way which the youngsters found difficult to counter.
The scores in each set were very close, the second being the tightest at 25-23.
For the Reivers, Bob Laws was the highest points scorer.
Full of enthusiasm as always, it was Durim Lepuri who was deservedly voted player of the match for Reivers.
The Reivers applied a considerable pressure on serve, especially their young apprentice Ian Wilkinson and the youngsters deserve credit for their ability to keep the ball live, if not accurate.
The Pirates will become a much stronger unit as the season progresses.
