No title

WITH the title already in the bag, Tynedale Hockey Club rounded off a great season with a 6-1 victory in their final fixture.

Leading goal scorer Tom Cant took his final tally for the campaign to 36 as he netted half of his side’s goals in the victory over Gateshead III.

Captain James Rainford, Adrian Marrison and Chris Smith all netted too as the team finished the season with 19 wins from their 22 games.

Half of the team then doubled up to play for the second string, and the fatigued players still managed to grind out a 3-3 draw with IV.

Gateshead put some nice flowing play together and led 2-0 at the break, before Jules Quinn came away with the player of the match award for sparking a Tynedale comeback.

Making an appearance for the men’s team after impressing for the ladies, she was involved in the build-up for all three goals, all finished by Chris Smith, before Gateshead grabbed an equaliser late on.

Quinn also made her mark for the ladies at the weekend, as they finished the season on a high with a comfortable 6-1 win over Newcastle. After a slow start, the victory was secured courtesy of hat-tricks from captain Sue Crawford and player of the match Amy Shaw.

Crawford got the ball rolling from a corner flick before doubling her tally with a neat push past the opposing goalkeeper.

Once Tyne found their flow, Shaw put the finishing touches on a flowing passing move involving Quinn, Becca Glaister and Sarah Withers.

Newcastle pulled one back but their hopes were smashed as Crawford completed her hat-trick, before her teammate equalled the accolade with two further goals.
