TALENTED members of Hexham Junior Netball Club are on the right track for sporting stardom.
Becki Woodhouse (16) and Mia Richardson (15), both students at the town’s Queen Elizabeth High School, have been selected for the North of England Regional Netball squad.
While Hexham members often make the county squad, it is rare that they make the next step to the regional team.
The duo’s call-up to the North’s training squad heightens their chances of making it into the elite leagues and the England junior teams.
Primarily defenders, Becki and Mia have caught the eye of selectors as they can also play in a range of positions.
They have been key players at Hexham since joining at an early age, and have both progressed through the ranks from the Northumberland satellite and then county structure.
Coach Kathie Keady said: “There are only 24 players in the regional training squad so the girls have done really well.
“It is no surprise to me that they have been called up to the squad and hopefully they can continue to progress to the next stages.”
She added: “We look forward to seeing both talented and motivated players on our TV screens in years to come!”
While a massive achievement for both players, it is also a great moment for Becki’s mother Lesley Woodhouse, a long serving coach at the club.
Any girls from Year 3 school age right up to U18 and U19 interested in joining Hexham Juniors can contact coach Kathie Keady on (07857) 417675. The club trains on Thursday evenings at Haydon Bridge High School.
