Junior course at Prudhoe

FUTURE champions at Prudhoe will be developed through a revolutionary six-hole golf course for juniors.
Prudhoe, nicknamed the Home of Champions following their many successes in recent years, has transformed the practice pitch onsite into a mini golf course in its own right.
The ground had always been an awkward shape for practising anything but short irons, anything longer making it dangerous as golfers could not see who was over the hill in the middle!
With the club having an active and established junior development section, they made the decision to build six small par three holes to make better use of the space available to them..
This enables the youngsters there to hone many aspects of their game before unleashing their new found skills on the main golf course.
Club member Richard Hannam said: “Part of the reason for creating the holes is to develop the encouragement given to young golfers over the years. The new par three course is yet another innovation to ensure that the club produces even more champions in the years ahead.”
In addition to developing young players, the par three course will also double up as a useful tool for beginner adults who want to try the sport out.

A workman was buried alive while digging a drain in the Prudhoe Urban Council's housing estate at Oaklands.
Workmates rushed to the aid of 50-year-old Richard Barclay, of Stocksfield, when the wall of the trench he was digging collapsed.
They managed to dig his head and shoulders free before finally pulling him from the earth. He was found to be suffering from shock and bruising.
