Champion performer

CYCLING: FINISHING more than a minute ahead of the rest of the field, an up-and-coming mountain biker from Hexham has been crowned champion of the North of England.

Rhianna Stoves, now representing Derwentside Cycling Club, won the U16 region championship by clinching success in the recent Nutcracker Series MTB race held in Richmond.

Ranked fourth nationally, the points gained through the victory by a healthy margin could be enough to put her up into third place.

The enthusiastic biker was red hot around the four-mile course to leave her rivals in her wake, as she continues to build on her early season form.

Also competing at the series were local riders Roisin and Ciaran Lally, Paddy and Sean Lally, Fin Robertson and Feargus Scherczer.
