Bowlers beat Stanley

TYNEDALE indoor bowlers gained sweet revenge over last year’s winners of the area National Fours in a close and exciting encounter at Wentworth Leisure Centre on Thursday night.
The team from Stanley IBC included English singles champion and international skip Gary Smith and Robert Chisolm (Welsh open champion 2009).
The Tynedale team of Phil Paxton, Richard Blaylock, Keith Henderson and skip Clive Knott took an early seven shots to two lead after four ends only to disastrously drop a four at the fifth.
The game was always tight and the home team were never behind until the 20th end when the Stanley team took a two shot lead going into the very last end.
Not for the first time Clive Knott produced a perfect take out to force an extra end.
He then bowled a side toucher, forcing Smith into playing weight and missing with his last bowl.
The Tynedale quartet now travel to West Denton IBC on Sunday, February 28, to play another Stanley team, this time led by Michael Bennett, for the honour and distinction of going down to Nottingham for the national finals in April.
