Rising to challenge: One of the competitors at the Highfield Fest

The annual Highfield Fest drew large crowds of children to the park, with BMX biking the order of the day.

Organised jointly by Prudhoe Town Council, former BMX pro Neville Potts and the town’s youth club, the event saw local youths battle it out for top prizes provided by Fox Europe.

There was a variety of age categories, ranging from eight-year-olds and up, and organisers were pleased with how the day went.

Mr Potts said: “It was a brilliant day and I am just hoping that this will grow into something really big in the future.

“It is definitely getting better year on year and I noticed a vast difference in riders as a lot of them had gone away after last year to work on their skill levels.

“Everybody enjoyed themselves and all involved in organising worked really hard to make sure it was such a successful day.”

Sadly, the first ever skate competition planned for the event was cancelled as the heavens opened just before it was starting.

The new competition was organised by members of Prudhoe Town Council’s young people’s forum who will try again next year.
