Maximum effort from Ainley

IN DIVISION One of the Northumberland Table Tennis League a below strength Newton A had a good 6-4 away win over leaders North Fire A, with Anthony Ainley getting a maximum.

In Division Two Newton C, helped by three wins from Neil Forsyth, also won 6-4 away to the leaders Old England Crocks.

In Division Three David Neal had a maximum as Newton D won 8-2 away to Cramlington Swifts and a maximum from Lena Vogt, playing her first match for the club, helped them to a 6-4 home win over Cramlington Spartans.

In the Handicap Cup Newton made a good start with four teams going through to the second round.

Results. Division One: North Fire A 4, Newton A 6 (A. Ainley 3, J. Russell 2, Ainley and Russell 1). Division Two: Old England Crocks 4, Newton C 6 (N. Forsyth 3, N. Bell 2, F. Wood 1).

Division Four: Cramlington Swifts 2, Newton D 8 (D. Neal 3, H. Pickering 2, A. Smith 2, Neal and Smith 1); Newton D 6 (L. Vogt 3, L. Pinkham 2, Vogt and Pinkham 1), Cramlington Spartans 4.

Handicap Cup: Newton B 8 (I. Armstrong 3, R. Lawson 3, C. Robertson 2), Cramlington Swifts 1; Newton C 5, (N. Forsyth 2, F. Wood 2, D. Sparke 1), St Chad’s 4; Newton D 5 (J. Henderson 3, J. Manuel 1, D. Neal 1), Cramlington Spartans 2.
