The ladies, junior U11, junior U13 teams were undefeated all season, beating Astley, Hexham, Morpeth, Wansbeck, Prudhoe, Concordia, Bedlington and Blyth.

The ladies’ team also gained recognition for the skill of their defence players, earning the title for the best defence in the Northumberland League.

Coach Deborah Goodwin, who is also head of PE at Ovingham Middle School and has coached the club for nine years, praised all of the 50 girls for their commitment to the club.

She said: “I have had some time off this year because I’ve had a baby. But despite that this is one of the best years the club has ever had, without a doubt. I can only put that down to the hard work of all the girls who kept up with the training throughout it all.”

The club is looking for new players and anyone interested in joining the club should contact Deborah on (01661) 844325.

Training is at Broomley First School, in Stocksfield, on Saturday mornings from 10am to noon.

The club is also looking for sponsorship for the new season.
