Rockettes suffer double disaster

THERE was penalty heartbreak for Wylam Rockettes as two of their teams crashed out in the dreaded shootout.

Despite goalkeeper Grace Rafferty making a great save, U11 Rebels went out of the Northumberland Girls League Cup semi-finals to AE Phoenix.

Girl of the game Lottie Murphy had hit the post for U11 Rebels but they drew 0-0 on the day and 1-1 on aggregate to take the game to pens.

It was a similar story for U12 as girl of the game Ruth Owen saved one penalty following a 0-0 draw, but Wylam lost out on a place in the final in the shootout to Morpeth.

Wylam Rockettes U10 took the lead in their cup semi against run away league leaders Newcastle East End through a well taken Stacey Billinghurst goal.

They held out, with thanks to a star performance from goalkeeper Leah Daniels, until the last quarter but faced elimination of their own as they went down 3-1.

Cramlington Girls inflicted a 4-1 defeat on Wylam Rockettes U13 in the league, but all talk was of Wylam’s wonder goal as Georgia Briggs dribbled the ball 50 yards, beating three defenders, before sending a rocket of a shot into the top corner.

William Scott scored a 30-yard screamer to earn Hexham U12 Whites a second away win. The winner came after teammate Owen White had cancelled out an early goal from Cullercoats.

Hexham U13 Whites lost by the odd goal in 11 at Lemington Lions, while Hexham U12 Greens went down 6-2 to Ryton and Crawcrook Albion.

Hexham U14 led twice but lost 3-2 to Ponteland United U14 Predators, but there was victory for Hexham when they defeated local rivals Haltwhistle 5-3.

Alex Wood struck two and Michael Watts and man of the match Vinnie Proudlock one apiece as Hexham U13 Greensdefeated Prudhoe YC U13 Rockets 4-0.

With Sam Douglas and Ben Bloomer on target, and Ben Stokoe man of the match, Prudhoe YC U13 Reds beat Whitley Bay BC 4-2.
