Killingworth Cobras 1, Corbridge Utd U14s 5. HAVING lost 4-2 to unbeaten league champions Killingworth Cobras a few days earlier, Corbridge U14s were clear underdogs when the two sides met again in final of the North East Youth Development League Cup.

Corbridge were further disadvantaged by the fact the final was played at Killingworth.

This was the largest crowd most of the Corbridge boys had played in front of, and this inspired them to an excellent start, Alex Martin giving them an early lead.

Killingworth responded with an equaliser but Corbridge’s Jamie Foster scored twice more to go into half time unexpectedly leading 3-1.

Killingworth demonstrated clearly why they haven't lost a match all season for the next 20 minutes. They are a strong, physically imposing team, but the Corbridge defence, with Danny Smith and Nathan Aspinall and new keeper Patrick Booker at its heart, held firm.

Another accurate corner from Fergus Oliver led to a fourth goal from Jamie Foster as, buoyed by confidence, they pushed forward with wave after wave of exciting attack.

Eventually the fifth came and Alex Martin was unlucky to get a sixth.

Corbridge were jubilant as the final whistle was blown on the upset of the season.
