Quarter final goes to shoot out

ALLENDALE and Corbridge United U9s fought out the right to carry the Tyne Valley Insurance Tynedale U10s Mini-soccer League Division Two flag into the West Northumberland Youth FA Coalfields Regeneration Trust Trophy semi-final.
After a tremendous advert for the local league, it was Corbridge who won their quarter final match after a nail biting finish.
Allendale raced into a two goal lead virtue of a Bradley Wilson brace but parity was restored before half-time with Corbridge hitting back through Lucas Holmes and Joe Anderson.
There were plenty of goalmouth action after the break and Dale keeper Alex Cousin and his opposite number Nathan Byerley impressed throughout with the latter, making a couple of brilliant saves to keep his side on level terms.
Allendale looked to have clinched a place in the last four of the competition five minutes from time as Alex Liverick cracked home a stunning long range effort.
However, the tie still had a sting in its tail as the visitors equalised with almost the last kick of the game through Joe Anderson.
There was no addition to the final score of 3-3 during extra time and the dreaded spot kick shoot-out resulted in Corbridge winning 3-2 on penalties, with keeper Nathan Byerley again distinguishing himself with further good saves.
Sam Reed and Callum Snowdon were prominent at the back for the home side but overall this was a great credit to all in a match well handled by an ‘up and coming’ local referee who shall remain nameless.
All conquering Haydon Bridge also made progress but were given a good work out by a Stocksfield side who played with tremendous spirit before going down 3-1.
The free scoring Joel Pearson and the impressive Liam Lambert gave the Haydonians’ a 2-0 lead before Jonathan Tobin raised Stocksfield’s hopes of a shock result by pulling one back.
However, Pearson scored a third to assure his side a place in the semi-final.
keeper A.J. Lackenby enjoyed a fine game for the winners with Liam Lambert and Dale Leadbitter also catching the eye while James McGee took the man of the match award for Stocksfield.
Corbridge United Lions won their place in the last four with the 7-1 defeat of Wark.
Their counters came from Matthew Percival (2), Matty Pugh (2) Callum Dronfield and a couple of own goals while a lone strike by Jake Thompson was scant reward for the efforts of the North Tyne boys.
The quarter final still outstanding between Prudhoe YC Boys and Throckley Magpies AC is due to be played tomorrow morning – weather permitting.
The U10s Division One was reduced to only two games with wins for Corbridge United and Wylam Rockets Blues over Prudhoe YC Reds and Wylam Rockets Apollo respectively.
Sam Austin, Scott Bewick, Finn McKendrick, Nicholas Ryan and Lewis Twizell all found the net once in Corbridge’s 7-0 win while Aaron Smith capped a man of the match display by hitting a double against a luckless Prudhoe side whose star performer was Kieran Harrison.
The Wylam teams made light of the conditions to provide an entertaining game with the Blues winning bragging rights after a 7-3 victory.
Jamie Barnard and the impressive Luke Greenwood both notched hat-tricks with Jacob Hatch also on target while the Apollo youngsters recovered from an early three goal deficit to score through Joseph Dalton (2) and their man of the match Sam Dibb-Fuller.
Highlight of the second half saw the latter denied a brace when his drive from just outside the box flashed through a crowded goal area only for Blues’ keeper Lewis Winship to make a fantastic save at full stretch.
With second placed Corbridge United U9s involved on West Division Cup duty Throckley Magpies U9s opened up a seven point gap at the top of Division Two with the 4-0 defeat of Wylam Rockets Tynedale.
The unbeaten Black and Whites netted through a Steven Carey hat-trick and a Keleb Askew-Kennedy goal.
Evan Daniels starred for the visitors who were often denied success in front of goal by outstanding Throckley keeper Ethan Coulson.
Third placed Hexham Greens won 3-1 away to Corbridge United Rangers with goals by Seth Kippax-Jones (2) and star man Alex Wood while the Rangers top performer Lance Urwin replied.
Wylam Rockets Whites just lost out to neighbours Prudhoe YC Blues by the odd goal in seven.
William Westgarth and the prominent Jimmy Kidd were the marksmen for Wylam with Kieran Lee (2) and Andy Matfin scoring for the winners whose Joseph Robson starred.
Stocksfield Rangers played with plenty of spirit away to Haydon Bridge U9s but were no match for the finishing power of Kian Rock, Morgan Anderson, David Robson and Nathan Leadbitter.
Josh McCutcheon was well in evidence with some good runs for Stocksfield with Lewis McPartlan excelling for the hosts.
Haydon Bridge have no senior sides at the present time but the club continues to be a hot-bed at junior level which augurs well for the future of a long established and well respected football club who have been very good in their support of mini-soccer for many years.
