PRUDHOE Town face an energy sapping start to the Wearside League when the action gets under way tomorrow.
With three new teams in the division taking the total to 22, teams are having to play four games in the space of just seven days in the opening week.
To make matters worse for Town, all games will be away from home as the league have again allowed their pitch at Kimberly Park time to settle after the summer’s maintenance work.
Tomorrow they travel to Hartlepool, followed by Monday’s game at Gateshead Leam Rangers, Wednesday’s match-up with Jarrow and next Saturday’s encounter against Wolviston.
Club chairman Chris Lowther said: “It is going to be a hard start but it is very important to start well and we will be trying to do that.
“We want to progress so we are hoping to finish in the top 10, and then to keep on improving year on year.
“We will take the first 10 games as they come and then see if we need to make changes or if it is working.”
Despite publicly committing himself to Prudhoe for the long run, prolific striker Chris Winn has turned his back on the club to sign for reigning Wearside champions Ryhope CW.
They have also lost captain Peter Bryson to Seaham Red Star but many new faces are coming in, some with Northern League experience, and the club are confident of a successful campaign.
Added to the ranks will be a further U14 side to take the number of teams run by Prudhoe Town to five, alongside the Wearside League club, the Sunday League side, the Women’s team and the existing U14.
l Prudhoe Town will host a charity match between Virgin Media and a team from Cramlington, in aid of MacMillan Nurses.
On Thursday, August 23, at 7.30pm, over 100 people are expected to shout on the teams participating in the second annual fundraiser.
