Otterburn aim high

THE North Tyne and Redesdale has long been without junior football teams over the age of U10.
Once they finish their Tynedale Mini-Soccer League journey at Wark, many youngsters either head out of the area for their football fix - or stop all together.
But volunteers in Otterburn are keen to address the drop-out, starting a team at U11 level in the Pin Point Recruitment Junior Football League.
And the aim is to expand the club year-on-year, hoping to add one team each season.
Currently, Otterburn have nine youngsters signed on but they are looking for more boys or girls to take them up to their allowance of 14.
The team is coached by Greg McConnell, a former professional with Yorkshire club Ossett Albion, and local resident Michael Pooley.
They train on Tuesday evenings and play their competitive games on Sunday mornings.
Anyone interested in joining or finding out more details should contact chairman Claire Austin on (01830) 520557.

THREE watercolour paintings donated by Queen Mary were auctioned off to raise money for a new Darby and Joan club in Hexham.
A site had already been bought, but a further £6,000 was needed to run the club for the elderly.
The auction, opened by Viscountess Allendale, saw the paintings raise over £8 for the fund.
