A GROUP of youngsters from Wylam were the first football fans to welcome Newcastle United’s new star Moussa Sissoko to the North-East.

Wylam Rockets U7 were first football fans to welcome Newcastle United signing Moussa Sissoko to St James' Park when they made a visit to the stadium soon after his arrival at the club.

Wylam Rockets U7 bumped into the new French acquisition, who caught the eye with two goals against Chelsea, when touring the Magpies’ St James’ Park as he made his way to training following his first press conference in England.

Coach Gary Walsh said: “The boys gave him a warm welcome and they were over the moon to meet him.”

The behind the scenes tour was planned to continue their football development during the winter break from the Apollo Doors Gateshead league.

Since starting up less than a year ago, the boys have made great progress, having fun and learning new football skills.

They received even more of a boost when it was revealed they had received a £600 financial boost from home phone and broadband provider TalkTalk.

The company will sponsor Wylam for the next 12 months, and the fund will go towards purchasing new training equipment, and training courses for new coaches.

The sponsorship follows a £50,000 investment by TalkTalk in the Wylam, Heddon on the Wall, Horsely and Low Prudhoe area.
