Layla’s late winner

A LATE winner from Layla Zahawi saw Prudhoe Town Women stave off a comeback and earn three points in the process.

Having been pegged back to 3-3 after two goals from Middlesbrough Lionesses, striker Zahawi clawed it back for Town in the 87th minute.

Having fallen behind to a 22nd minute strike, Prudhoe levelled the scores just four minutes later through Rhiannon Castle.

Town poured forward to push home their advantage, Jennifer Wilkes heading home on 36 minutes before doubling her tally prior to the half time break with a great strike.

Hosts Boro refused to lie down and came roaring back, scoring on the half hour and six minutes later to take the score to 3-3.

Yet they were denied anything from the fixture as Zahawi pounced just three minutes from time to lift Prudhoe to sixth in the table.

Tynedale Ladies, meanwhile, moved back up to second as they completed the double over Yorkshire side Easingwold Town Angels.

They breezed to a 7-1 home victory to close the gap with leaders Lowick United Ladies to seven points, with Tyne holding three games in hand over their rivals.
