RED hot Wallington shot themselves to top spot in Division One with a 3-1 victory over title rivals Cramlington Town.
Their first goal came on 24 minutes when captain Alex Slack provided for striker John Paxton to find the back of the net for the Greens.
They had to wait until the hour mark to get their second through Justin Millican.
The three points were in the bag with just a minute to go, substitute Jake Walton setting Nellis away to notch his 13th of the season.
Heddon’s starting XI seemed to struggle shaking off the excesses of the festive period as they made a nightmare start to 2013.
A woeful performance from front to back resulted in them losing 3-0 to Gateshead Redheugh.
They were sluggish from the off when full back Matthew Tingate presented Gateshead striker Kevin Hay with a belated Christmas gift.
Despite goals from Mark Wright and Ryan Potts, Alston fell short against Division Two rivals Grainger Park Boys Club.
The Cumbrians failed to progress in the Pin Point Recruitment Bill Gardner Memorial Trophy, Grainger securing the victory courtesy of two goals from David Tweed and one from Robert Jefferson.
Alston return to league action tomorrow in a much anticipated home fixture against fierce rivals Swalwell.
