Hexham Ex-Service 10, Prudhoe WMC 0THE title challenge of Prudhoe Working Men’s Club, current leaders of the Hexham and District Sunday League Division One, was in tatters following a ten-goal massacre at the hands of league champions Hexham Ex-Service.
The Ex welcomed back Mark Elliot, Dale and Lee Telfer and Barry Joice to field a more experienced starting line-up.
And the match started in extraordinary fashion as Ex-Service midfielder Dale Telfer’s outrageous shot from the half-way line sailed over the Prudhoe keeper, producing a goal of the season contender.
The Ex went 2-0 ahead after only two minutes when the exuberant Mark Robson’s tremendous drive hit the back of the net.
At the other end, Barry Joice brilliantly denied a dangerous Prudhoe attack. Then, a Milbourne volley smacked the cross bar and Lee Telfer headed in the rebound to make it 3-0.
The Ex went even further ahead on 22 minutes. A Wilson cross found Lee Telfer in a perfect position to tap in for 4-0.
The aerial power and clever midfield play of Lee and Dale Telfer caused headaches for the Prudhoe rearguard and it was the latter who created the Ex’s fifth goal, cleverly finding Milbourne who blasted the ball into the net to make it five.
A minute later a Wilson corner was nodded home at the far post by defender Barry Joice.
Dale Telfer had a few more chances to score, but it was his brother Lee who made it seven; his superbly crafted shot crashing into the net making it 7-0 before half-time.
In the second half there was no respite for the beleaguered Prudhoe as the Ex were hungry for more goals.
The home side continued to attack, Robson and Milbourne combining to set up Lee Telfer who went close.
He made up for it on the hour, though, as his superb drive beat the keeper to make it eight.
Minutes later a Milbourne scorcher crashed in at the far post from a cross by the impressive Robson for the ninth goal.
And finally, a Telfer through ball to Mark Robson found Milbourne, whose smart finish made it 10-0 to cap a fine victory and an impressive team performance.
The match was sponsored by Wallace Carpets and Vinyls.
