End of season bonus sees Pont promoted after all

PONTELAND Cricket Club were devastated when they missed out on promotion to Division A1 by finishing the season in third place.
Their title charged derailed towards the end of the campaign and, with only one team to be promoted, they had their eyes set on preparing for another year in A2.
However, their dream of jumping up to the higher league will become reality after a change in circumstances within the Wellstream Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League.
With A1 runners-up Sacriston being promoted to the first division of the North East Premier League, requests from both Morpeth and Chopwell to be relegated from the higher league resulted in there being three empty spots.
Bottom club Leadgate were allowed to remain in A1 as a result of the changes, meaning that the top three of Ryton, Consett and Ponteland were promoted to fill the vacancies.
Pont will start life in the top division of the Wellstream League with a home game against Burnopfield on April 20.
