IN A top of the table clash with Backworth, a young Tynedale 2nd XI narrowly lost by 15 runs.
Keeping Backworth down to 237 all out, 12-year-old Euan Stephenson and the more experienced Paul Scandle picked up two wickets each to give their side hope of overhauling the total.
In reply, Tyne gave it a great go but fell short as they finished on ending 222-8 despite captain Richard Byerley making an excellent 95.
Also impressing was Noah Hiles with 56, while special mentions belong to junior Josh Renton (12), and 13-year-old Will Dagg (17no) and Stephenson (12no).
Tomorrow, the seconds travel to Ryton looking to bounce back from their disappointment.
Tynedale’s first team’s trip to Percy Main was rained off, but they will be hoping for better fortune tomorrow as they host County Durham side Sacriston. They will be missing two key players for the first game of the second half of the campaign, with both Richard Darling and Jamie Crichton unavailable.
Tynedale U13 failed to make the final of the league cup when they lost in the semis to a very good Tynemouth side, while Tyne U15 sit in second spot with just one game to go despite their game with Jesmond being cancelled.
