Blagdon run out of steam

CORBRIDGE picked up another league win when they defeated Blagdon Park by 25 runs in a low scoring game at The Stanners.

The visitors won the toss and asked Corbridge to bat on a damp wicket which looked that it might favour bowlers rather than batsmen.

Corbridge were quickly in trouble when Percival was out lbw for four with the score only on 10.

Fowler soon followed him back to the pavilion with the home side’s total on 29.

When David Cook was out for 23 Corbridge had slumped to 63 for 5.

It was left to Andy Dover (33) to help them to recover to 121 all out.

For Blagdon Park Tom Lakey took 4 for 36 and David Gibson returned 4 for 25.

The visitors got off to a poor start losing Forster and then Gibson with the score on 17.

Blagdon Park then progressed cautiously to 90 for the loss of five wickets and looked well set to claim the points.

But then the next three wickets fell for no runs and the visitors had collapsed to 90 for 8, and suddenly an unlikely victory was within Corbridge’s grasp.

Blagdon added only five more runs before the last two wickets fell leaving the total on 95.

The pick of the Corbridge bowlers were Mark Ryan with 3 for 27 and Chris Fowler with 3 for 22, whilst Dave Hardy bowled his usual miserly spell and weighed in with 2 for 13 off 13 overs.

The club’s new changing facilities will be formally opened on Sunday.

The project which was completed in time for the new season cost over £130,000.

To celebrate the occasion the club is planning a day of cricket, starting at 10.30am when Corbridge Under-13s host Alnmouth and Lesbury.

At 1.30pm the club’s women’s team, the Angels, take on Hexham Leazes Women.

The official opening will take place at about 3.30pm after which the club is organising a family fun cricket competition.
