County cup joy for Stocksfield and Hexham

TYNEDALE has produced two further county cup semi-finalists with both Stocksfield and Hexham making progress at the weekend.

Northern Alliance Premier Division outfit Stocksfield came from behind to defeat rivals Blyth Town 2-1 to join Ponteland United in the final four of the prestigious Senior Benevolent Bowl.
Meanwhile, Hexham, of Division One, had no such problems as they thumped Division Two strugglers Grainger Park BC 5-0 in the Minor Cup quarter-finals.
Wallington edged a thriller with rivals Ponteland United to go back to the top of Division One, Sam Walton securing a 3-2 victory for his side with a late strike.
There were defeats for Heddon and Prudhoe Town, the former losing 1-0 at home to Newcastle University and Town returning from Kirkbymoorside with a 3-2 defeat to mull over.
Hexham Phoenix proved they are genuine title contenders in the Hexham and District Sunday League as they turned over reigning champions Halfway House Prudhoe 7-2 on their own turf.
Bardon Mill, meanwhile, went back to the top of Division Two with a 5-2 victory over Newbrough Argyles.
