Sport Relief Courant Mile

HUNDREDS of local people donned their running gear to ensure the first ever Courant Mile was a runaway success.

Tynedale residents of all ages ran either one, three or six miles to raise money for charity in the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile which was held at Tynedale Rugby Club, in Corbridge.

Each participant got into the spirit of the event, with many running in fancy dress costumes which included a pantomime horse, a dalek and a group of girls on space hoppers! Leading the Milers off was local BBC weather girl Hannah Bayman, Tynedale RFC captain Jack Harrison and Newcastle Falcons player Joe Graham who all ran one mile before staying around to hand out medals to participants.

Such was the success of the Mile, organisers Hexham Courant and Tynedale RFC are in discussions about making it an annual event.
