Music explores the Hidden Hexham
ONE of the joys of living in Hexham is the extra dimension to town life brought by organisations like the Community Partnership and its musical equivalent Core Music, which was set up five years ago as a community interest company to provide rehearsal, recording and performance space for local musicians.

Invisible minority
AFTER a year of near incessant rain and then hard frost and ice, the roads around here are in a terrible condition. It is interesting to note that someone (local council I presume) has decided it necessary to tarmac the cycle path on Glenwelt Bank, Greenhead, that runs alongside the Military Road, in priority to fixing the local roads most travelled.

Improvements
ACCORDING to your front page article regarding the bus station, (Courant, April 5), nothing has been done except the painting of the pathway since it was built in 1935.

Heartfelt thanks
WE would like to say a big thank you to Jo, Gary and the quiz team at the General Havelock, at Haydon Bridge, who held a quiz night to raise money for the Education Centre for Children with Downs Syndrome (ECCDS) which our son Max attends.

Simple economics
GUY Opperman’s support of free parking shows an unreal view of the local situation. The local Conservatives are not offering a viable alternative parking solution for Hexham.

Historical importance
AT a recent annual meeting of Hexham Town Council I was surprised and delighted to see such a large attendance of people determined to improve our environment and general appearance of the town. I was particularly impressed by the mason who wanted to repair St Wilfrid’s Gate.

Responsibility
ONCE again, Hexham’s Conservative MP, Guy Opperman, stubbornly refuses to accept any responsibility for the decline in Hexham's retail sector.

Charity shop
NORMALLY I do not respond to people who do not have the courage of their convictions or decency to publish their names (Courant Letters, March 22) but on this occasion I owe it to the volunteers to respond.

Urgent action needed to save vital asset of Hexham’s heritage
IT is disappointing that your correspondent A.B. Cuthbert (Courant Letters, March 22) used the state of St Wilfrid's Arch only for a party political rant that was useless and futile.

Fracking fears
REGARDING the Duke of Northumberland’s sudden interest in mineral rights (Courant, March 15), the first thing to come to mind is, is he about to become a fracker?

Real culprits
I KNOW the silly season is here (local elections in May), but you’ve got to hand it to the Tories on Hexham Town Council for their bare faced cheek.

Loyalty card
AT the town plan meeting organised by Hexham Town Council this week, I heard comments from retailers that few or none of their customers were presenting Hexham Loyalty Cards, leading to the feeling these are not working as intended by encouraging local companies.
