Tynedale: A69 safety

THE recent and tragic deaths on the A69 have brought in to sharp focus the need for the upgrade of this busy road to a dual carriageway between Hexham and Carlisle.

Bad roads

I AM ‘lucky’ enough to live on what is probably one of the worst affected roads in the county. Indeed, the county will shortly be receiving the bill for my insurance deductible, after my car went into a massive (and already reported several times) pothole on an icy road.

Party’s pledges

Spot checks

WITH reference to wobbly kerbstones, dirty streets and blocked gullies, it has my long-standing view that the rot set in when the council did away with designated staff to look after a designated part of the town and also the highways.

Welfare cuts

I ASKED what religious leaders thought about the Con-Dem Coalition Government’s planned cuts to the welfare system through the Welfare Benefits Uprating Bill – that legislation applies to a wide range of benefits and tax credits including income support, child benefit, working tax credits and child tax credits (Courant Letters, March 8).

Gauleiters

AFTER long years of economic suffering caused by politicians and just as the economy is showing signs of real recovery, along come some buffoons in local government to destroy the already devastated high street.

Sadistic and cruel

DURING the past year I have been taking my daughter to the toddlers’ play area behind Prudhoe Golf Club, in West Wylam. However, it is increasingly becoming dangerous to do so.

Duke is pressed to identify Prudhoe’s supermarket bidder

hxDukeNorth17ct I NOTICE that Prudhoe got a mention in the Sunday Times Rich List, where it states: “Now the dust has settled on a planning battle, Northumberland is going ahead with a £28m development of Prudhoe town centre near his Alnwick seat”.

ELECTION fever is upon us again – but please let not truth be a casualty of the battle. I refer to Dr Anne Pickering’s letter (Courant, April 12).
