I AM researching the mystery of what have been commonly referred to as the ‘Hexham Heads’.

Many readers will be at least vaguely familiar with the saga which began in 1972 when two members of the Robson family dug up two artefacts in the garden at Rede Avenue, Hexham, and which experts judged to be 1,800-year-old Celtic sculpted heads.

Subsequently, a Hexham resident, who had been the previous tenant at the discovery site, Desmond Craigie, claimed the artefacts were modern – and made by him only 16 years previously for his daughter Nancy to play with.

Meanwhile, also in Rede Avenue, a resident was caring for her young son, who was ill, when a creature akin to a werewolf manifested in the bedroom before loping out of the house.

I originally visited Hexham regarding this mystery in 1977 and am currently engaged in primary research for a second book on the subject. I am keen to contact, for the purpose of interviews, members of the family living in the house at the time of the 1972 werewolf incident.

I am also keen to trace anyone else with information on this classic tale of the unexpected. Has anyone any idea of what happened eventually to those ‘Celtic’ – if such – heads?
