THE four councillors for the Ponteland area have been working closely with the community to combat the threat of a phone mast being erected outside of Darras Hall First School.

We thank the community for the fantastic effort that has been made and the success of heading off the potentially damaging plans from O2.

This incident has come about due to mistaken procedure at Northumberland County Council and we are now working to ensure that the plans for any phone mast in such a sensitive area are formally rejected.

We are still working with O2 and the council to look for alternative sites but we must also ensure that the ridiculous situation in which a plan that has been rejected by councillors can subsequently be allowed just because of sloppy action by the council.

The meeting last week with O2 was just part of the solution and residents can be assured that we will continue to look for a long term solution to this unfortunate situation.
