Retro cheek

I WAS impressed to read of Guy Opperman’s outspoken attack on his fellow Conservative MPs’ plans to regionalise public sector pay and further hobble the economy of the North-East (Courant, June 29).
What courage it must have taken him to speak against a policy that has already been killed off by Liberal Democrat ministers in the coalition months ago as soon as it was floated by George Osborne.
By leading from the rear, Mr Opperman can get maximum press for minimum risk to his political career. What other defunct ideas will Guy now condemn? The three day week? Green shield stamps? The Corn Laws?
I know all things ‘retro’ are meant to be in fashion now but I wasn’t aware that this extended to politics.
