Reasonable rates

I’VE recently moved to the area and would like to respond to Gail Wright’s rant about parking in Hexham (Courant, November 9).
Personally I have never experienced a town with so much convenient parking at very reasonable rates. Drivers in most towns have to endure ugly multi-storey parking blocks with constricted space and congestion.
Gail Wright needs to remember that parking restrictions are in place for a good reason. Of course, such restrictions can cause problems if the motorist has no other parking options available, but in Hexham this is simply not the case.
The council seems to respond quickly and positively to feedback on this issue. For example, the road markings have been changed on Hencotes and parking charges abolished at Tyne Green.
Paying 30p to pop straight in the door of a retailer is a small price to pay these days.
Failing that, taking a short stroll up a pretty street to reach the shops is hardly much of an effort.
If you can afford to spend £400 a week in Hexham then surely you can afford a small fee to park your vehicle legally at no inconvenience to anyone else.
