Reading matter

Regarding your article “Alan’s retirement marks new chapter” (July 27) I take exception to the implication that none of the staff at Waterstone’s are readers and therefore, cannot possibly recommend books to their very numerous customers.
I have worked at Waterstone’s, formerly Ottakar’s, – which incidentally was incorrectly spelled in the article – for over six years and on average read two to three books a week.
We have a large number a customers, nay, booklovers, who come in to see us on a regular basis because we are so good at recommending books for them.
I don’t know Mr Grint personally, but find it quite upsetting that he can suggest this.
