Prudhoe: Why did council leave our housing estate snowbound for week?

I AM writing to complain about the snow clearing on the Highfield estate, in Prudhoe.

In the absence of council gritting teams, Prudhoe residents such as Peter Finn helped keep local roads clear of snow and ice.

Last week was horrendous. No plough or salt arrived until Friday. All residents who were able cleared not only their drives but also the road.

Numerous people, including myself on three occasions, phoned the county council and sent emails – all to no avail.

This estate was packed with solid ice and it was back breaking work to clear it. Last Monday, the electricity supply was disrupted for two and a half hours. The national grid van could get no where near the transformer, so my husband had to help dig it out.

After this we took a walk onto the Hillcrest estate near to us and it was clear. Why the plough and salt could not have come to us I cannot understand.

We all pay our council tax. I have to say that the county council did a marvellous job on the main roads, but did nothing for us.
