Misguided

OPPOSITION to the Same Sex Marriage Bill has nothing to do with prejudice. A. Wright (Courant Letters, February 15) quite correctly points out that marriage was ordained for the union of a man and woman.

Parliament has no right to mess about with sacraments and I hope and pray that the House of Lords will see sense and knock this misguided Bill on the head before it gets any further.

For what it is worth I have resigned as a member of the Conservative Party of which I have been a lifelong member.

I am sorry to say that Guy Opperman and Penrith MP Rory Stewart have fallen in my estimation for supporting this Bill.

It is a Christian duty to forgive but, in this situation, it is not easy.

MICHAEL WATTS,

Penrith
