Hexham: Overheated
Published at 07:42, Wednesday, 06 February 2013
I write to clarify the situation regarding Hexham Town Council and the town plan.
The recent and somewhat overheated correspondence seems to have been generated out of misunderstanding – or perhaps mischief.
Here are the facts. I introduced the notion of a town plan in 2011 as part of a move toward Hexham becoming a Quality Town; this I felt would bring attendant benefits to Hexham.
Coun. Judy Lloyd took up the challenge with her usual energy and enthusiasm.
The town council granted £5,000 to fund the venture on the understanding that the plan would be presented in spring 2013.
The town plan steering group, after a great deal of work, still has around £2,000 in its dedicated account.
Following a formal presentation of the written plan, the council (which has contingency funding in its budget) will decide how to proceed in consultation with interested parties.
It is well to remember that public money is involved here and the council does not feel able to grant further funding without seeing the results thus far.
