First-class

HAVING read criticism of the service provided by Hexham General Hospital (Courant Letters, February 26) I felt that I must leap to its defence!

In December 2009, I was referred by my GP to the breast clinic at the hospital, and subsequently diagnosed with breast cancer.

I needed surgery at Hexham and received first class care, followed by several appointments with an excellent physio based at the unit in the hospital.

I have just received my second round of chemotherapy in Ward 1 at Hexham. The staff there are superb.

The last three months have been fairly stressful at times for me and my young family, but if it weren’t for the service provided by our local hospital, and the very special people that work quietly behind the scenes there, my experience would have been a whole lot more traumatic.

It is very easy to criticise a hospital that ‘looks wonderful from the outside,’ but if ever you have to explore inside, you’ll see that a lot of great work goes on in there.
