THANKS to your correspondent’s comments (Courant Letters, March 5), I was inspired to take action!

On a lovely sunny Sunday morning, I got up early. Taking with me a black bin bag and plastic gloves, I went to pick up the litter that has been spoiling the scene where I walk (near by my own backyard) from the small footbridge over Cockshaw Burn and along the pathway to the Totem Poles Garden.

I found loads of litter. My black bag was very soon full; but fortunately the local litter louts provided a further good supply of eight more plastic bags, which were also soon filled.

Very satisfactory, but what to do with so much litter, now heaped up together all in one place, made me pause for thought?

If you found some unexpected rubbish in the bagging area of your wheelie bin, ‘it wos me wot did it’.

Sorry! I only put a small portion in each bin, after I had filled the litter bin, and our own wheelie bin.

After this expedition I returned home with a good appetite for breakfast, and I had enjoyed the sight of a pair of ducks dabbling in the stream, a tiny weeny wren foraging in the undergrowth, and so many snowdrops freshly flowering.

I will enjoy my walk even better next time.
