Tynedale: Radical changes
THOUGH we are at opposite ends of the political spectrum, I am pleased to see that UKIP, a non-mainstream party, has made a noticeable difference to local voting patterns in the recent elections.

Hexham: Rise of Rome
I WAS one of the small audience who heard the talk by Anthony Everitt in Hexham Library about his new book The Rise of Rome, which was reviewed by Peter Lewis in last week’s Courant.

Hexham: We must focus on the wonderful assets of our town centre shops
YOUR front page article speculates on investors being lured to Hexham. We, in the Market Street traders’ group, find yet again disappointment only in the continued talking down of Hexham.

Prudhoe: Duke’s takeover
FROM the technical plans I saw for Prudhoe (Courant, May 3), I see the battle against the Duke of Northumberland is not over.

Tynedale: Parking ticket
ANOTHER sad addition to the new parking restrictions occurred when a friend of mine, with a disabled badge, called and left his car in a residents-only bay, only to discover on his departure that he had acquired a fixed penalty ticket.

Stocksfield: Visual impact
I DON’T think it is generally recognised in Stocksfield, Hedley-on-the-Hill and Mickley that there is a significant threat from seriously large wind turbines in the area.

Bad roads
I AM ‘lucky’ enough to live on what is probably one of the worst affected roads in the county. Indeed, the county will shortly be receiving the bill for my insurance deductible, after my car went into a massive (and already reported several times) pothole on an icy road.

Party’s pledges
LIKE Mike Parker (Courant Letters, March 29), I too was amazed when I read the latest leaflet from the Conservative Party. So much so that I looked for an acknowledgement to the Brothers Grimm. They also told a good fairy story.

Spot checks
WITH reference to wobbly kerbstones, dirty streets and blocked gullies, it has my long-standing view that the rot set in when the council did away with designated staff to look after a designated part of the town and also the highways.
