POLICE have named a woman who died in a three-vehicle crash on the A69 between Hexham and Haydon Bridge on Saturday.

Lynnette Davison of Askham-in-Furness, Cumbria, was driving a Ford Focus when it collided with a Vauxhall van and Audi TT at around 4pm.

Emergency services were called to the scene, half a mile west of the Two Mile Cottages junction, but the 52-year-old was pronounced dead by paramedics.

An inquest into her death is expected to be opened later this week by South Northumberland Coroner, Eric Armstrong.

A 57-year-old man, who was driving the van, suffered a broken arm and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment.

The 50-year-old driver on the Audi was not injured.

A stretch of A69 was closed for four hours following the collision to allow for vehicle recovery and diversions were put in place via the Military Road.

Inquiries are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the crash and any witnesses are being urged to come forward.
