Advertising Feature. The Honda Civic has been in production for nearly four whole decades and it is as popular now as it ever has been. The success that Honda have achieved with the Civic deserves plenty of credit and the small family car looks set to keep going strong for a few years yet.
A classic design that relies on its reliability and its sensibility, the Honda Civic has remained one of the most solid cars in its price range since it was first introduced, and will continue in its popularity: because it has sounded out and achieved the fundamentals of car design, families and singletons a like have always returned to one of Honda’s most popular models.
The Honda Civic might be a pretty solid car that can be viewed as an all-rounder - and it certainly doesn’t disappoint - but, the tuned up version of the car, the Honda Civic Type R, is much more striking and will generate far stronger opinions towards than its more standard counterpart.
The Type R is targeted at a young audience, who are looking for speed and power, and want a car that will help them stand out from the crowd. The Type R is a far sportier version of the Honda Civic and is in competition with fellow hot hatches such as the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Ford Focus RS in the small sports car market.
The Type R offers a completely different driving experience to the toned down regular Civic and is an engaging car both its performance and its look; the Honda Civic Type R’s engaging nature has much to do with the personality that it has created for itself through its bold design. The Type R is certainly eye-catching and innovative in terms of its design, and its aesthetics and ergonomics are quite unique.
Everything about the Type R’s design shouts sporty, from the low front grille to the aggressive lines and rear spoiler. The Type R’s interior is more of the same, as sculptured red seats scream ‘look at me!’ and make the inside of the car just as distinctive as the outside.
When it comes to paint jobs the most striking Type R colour is Celebratory White which looks back at Honda’s days as a successful Formula 1 team.
Whilst the design of the Type R is hard to ignore, the performance that it offers is equally impressive. The Type R deploys all the power from its fuel injected two litre engine very generously and the same thing can be said about its revving at high rpm.
The high pitched engine further leaves you under no allusion as to the speed that the car can reach, whilst the responsive steering gives you the feeling that you are always in control as the driver.
All of the components of the Honda Civic Type R work together well and there are no real weaknesses that let the car down, making the Type R a great piece of engineering.
